How to play 5 Star Word Engine
When you run 5 Star Word Engine, you'll be asked to enter your name. If you
have already played 5 Star Word Engine, just choose your name from the list and press OK.
Then you'll be prompted a password. This
feature allows different people use one copy of 5 Star Word Engine on the same machine. Each user
has his/her own custom dictionary and settings (such as difficulty level).
If you are playing 5 Star Word Engine for the first time, it's a good idea to choose a
suitable difficulty level. You can do that by choosing LEVEL item from the menu
in the bottom right-hand corner. The higher is the level, the longer are the words
your computer opponent is likely to create (level 1 is the easiest).
To start the game press START button. A set of letters is generated. To
create a word click one by one on the letters you want to place into the player's
slot. 5 Star Word Engine's algorythm ensures that at least two words can be created from
every set of letters (two is a unique case, usually this number is somewhere
between 30 and 50). Still if you can't figure out any word, press SKIP button.
But keep in mind, that when you are pressing it, you are automatically loosing
that round of the game. So, try to be creative!
If the word you've entered is absent in the dictionary, you'll be prompted
to add it in you personal dictionary. Yes, you can cheat the computer adding
non-exsisting words, but keep in mind that once you enter the word, you make it
possible for the computer to use it too! So, honesty is the best policy.
After you word is finished, press OK button, and the computer will show its
word. If you want to see which words can be at all generated from this particular
set of letters, press ANALYZE button (it's activated only after you finish your
word). You'll see the window with all possible variants. By default they are ordered
alphabetically, but you can place them according to their length by pressing
SORT BY LENGTH button.
And now - a few words about all those figures you see at the top of the game
screen.
A small yellow window closest to the left edge of the screen show how many points
you won or lost during the last round of the game. On the extreme right you see
a similar box, that shows the same, but for your computer opponent (details
about the rating system see in FAQ section). Other numbers:
GAME - number of rounds you have already played
HI SCORE - the highest rating ever reached by human players on this machine
YOUR SCORE - your current rating
MY SCORE - computer opponent's rating (depends on the level)
For detailed data about your results choose STATISTICS from the main menu.
